Accenture Placement Paper 26 November 2010

Hi Friends,

How you people will find my experience in TCS also the same type of experience i will share here once again, because i am recruited in both of this companies (TCS @ Accenture). You might be thinking that why i mis used the opportunity of employement of another student but i attended the interview to be a supportive to my friend but, bad luck he is rejected, luckily i got selected let begin my journey to Accenture.

Every company's battle begin with a mortal combat that is written test most of the selection lifes end with this there may be people who are intelligent but was'nt lucky enough. But i am converse to the above statement that is i'm not a intelligent but little lucky because the written test elimination is eliminated by me and by my friend which was very happy moment for both of us but in Accenture there is group combat called gd so my friend got eliminated in that. So lets begin.

Written test:

See in Accenture there is general written test in which every normal guy can clear it no need to prepare. General topics called as prepositions, articles(a, an, the)etc and 3 meanings out of which 1 is easy 2 are tough, no need to prepare, coding decoding, observation of answers (options) and see which are similar options, passages 2 very lenghty search based on question don't read whole, statements and assumptions, and given data and answer to be written based on analysis of given data, i could have given the questions but they are really very easy, coming to quantitative just read only venn diagrams finish your preparation but you need to be fast because no time and there high cutoff may be 35 for 55 questions and 60 mins. Needs to be fast and accurate.

Group Discussion:

Speak something wrong or correct, be positive don't be dum person speak your speaking is tested communication is tested.

Technical round:

Try to be confident on what so ever your answer may be right or wrong learn complete knowledge on your project its enough and learn concepts on functions arrays pointers in C enough

HR round:

Highly risky most students got elimintaed here but if your technically good HR is blah blah smile but don't laugh be confident learn some thing about Accenture and its logo meaning and projects taken up by it, its enough hope you people to be seen in Accenture all the best guys. Your day will be coming to write a experience like this because my turn came, which is my dream previously, now its your turn all the best hope for good tc.

Accenture Placement Paper 9 July 2010 SKNCOE, Pune

Accenture had come in our campus on 9th and 10th July, 2010. On 9th, they started the process by taking our aptitude first. There were almost 780 students who appeared for the aptitude. Aptitude was a fairly simple task. Their pattern was normal (55 questions in 60 minutes). You need to have a little logic to crack it. I had prepared myself from R.S. Aggrawal but apart from giving confidence it was of no use. The aptitude was divided into three categories viz. English, Problem Solving and Data Interpretation.

In English, there were 5 questions on articles, 5 fill in the blanks and there were two passages for reading comprehension. In Data interpretation, there were simple problems like :

Odd man out:
67896532 6789632 67896532 67896532

There were also several questions on:

If +=*, -=/, *=- and /=+ then what is the value of 5+6*3-2/9?

First two sections had 20 questions each and the last section had 15 questions. Though the aptitude was simple, it was difficult to solve those 55 questions within the alotted time (60 minutes.) They had also asked to write an essay on ‘The importance of computer science in getting a job in IT industry’. No extra time was given to us to complete the essay. We had to complete it within those sixty minutes only along with the aptitude.

456 students were shortlisted from the aptitude. Fortunately, I was one of them and I was the topper from our branch (E&TC).

Then there was technical interview.

Questions asked:

Ø Introduce yourself.
Ø Draw Kmap of any gate. (I drew for AND gate.)
Ø How can you obtain a 4*4 KMAP?
Ø Which circuits will you need for the same?
Ø Tell me different subjects u have studied.
Ø What is 8087?
Ø You have written a very good essay. Can you comment about the same?
Ø I can see from your marksheets that you have a very good percentage in your 10th standard but not so well in 12th. Why is this so?
Ø Do you want to ask something? (Don’t loose this opportunity and always ask something about the company)

I gave satisfactory answers to all the questions that were asked. The I came to know that I have cleared the technical round. The HR round was just a formality. But it was like a stress intwerview. The interviewer never listened to me and always crossed me before I could finish my answer. But I didn’t loose my calm and answered all his questions confidently. Here they test your confidence and communication skills. So, maintain a good eye contact with the interviewer.

Questions asked:

Ø Introduce yourself?
Ø Why Vishwanathan Anand is your favourite player?
Ø What does your father and mother do?
Ø Why Accenture? (Here, I told him that to be a perfectionist is the aim of my life and to be the BEST, I have to work with the BEST. Then he caught me on my ‘perfectionist’ point and then bombarded loads of questions on it.)
Ø Why do you want to become a perfectionist in your life?
Ø I can show 5 imperfections in you at this moment.
Ø Will you accept a person with imperfections?
Ø Then he asked to give the location preference.

Friends, Accenture selected 319 students from our campus and I’m now a part of Accenture’s family.

High Performance. Delivered.

Accenture Placement Paper 14 March 2010, Bhoj reddy Eng college,Hyd

Hai friends..

We had ACCENTURE off campus drive held at our college where around 1600 students from 10 different colleges like VNR,BRECW,CVRH,CVSR,NIT Warangal……had attented the drive.Among 1600 students he has recruited around 60 students(I guess.I don’t know the exact count)

SELECTION PROCEDURE:

We had –Written test followed by
GD
HR
Technical HR
Written test:

1)Verbal – This section is very easy if u r good at your basic grammar
Prepositions-3m
Articles-3m
Some meanings-3m
Passages-10m

2)Analytical-Many que from Venn diagrams
Few que on Blood relations.
5 que on Data Sufficiency
A simple puzzle

3) Reasoning- I feel this section is very simple just go through few previous papers.
* replaced with -, + replaced with *.some ques like that.(do calculations fastly)
Some que on eligibility criteria(go through R.S.Agarwal once for this section..quite simple)

GD:

My GD topic was “Should Govt.help students to go to abroad and study”.
(Show what u r in this round I mean expose all your leadership qualities which is very IMP in a GD)

HR:
My HR was very short and sweet.

He said… Hello pravallika…Iam …..

1)Can you tell me the career objective written in your CV.

2)Why EEE ?(non IT students prepare well for this que..he should satisfy with what you are telling)

3)Your biggest Achievement in life so far?

4) What do u regret for most in your life so far?

5)Why womens college? (I mentioned it in my essay writing..so..)

TECHNICAL HR:

My HR went around 20-25 min.He asked me almost all our subjects like C, DBMS, FMHM,Control systems,Machines,MEFA,Management science…what not ?
Thank god..he couldn’t remember subjects in my Intermediate & X class…J
But all are basics ques ..so u need not worry a lot…. J

He started with ok pravallika
1) Tell me about yourself ( this que is v.imp to let him know what you are…show him that you have a good sense of humour…for eg: I told him..My hobbies are playing Violin..but generally people get irritated when I start playing violin.. J he smiled at me )
2) Some que on the subjects which I have mentioned above.
I couldn’t answer 3-5 ques he asked me.(bcoz I couldn’t remember). But I could justify myself very very confidently that “Sir if I brush through those concepts once I could definitely answer all these que…(which I couldn’t answer).” I think he s very much impressed with my confidence only.

TIPS:

*Show him that you are very confident in each & every round.
* Be tention free (v.v.imp)

Eventhough you are not placed in the companies which you have attended before never never get disheartened pl pl….. (as I did)

“ Believe some where some better option is waiting for you”.

Work hard it never fails…(it worked on me)

Finally believe in God & yourself.

See you all in Accenture frns

Thank you.

Accenture Placement Paper 23 December 2010 Arya College Of Engg. & I.T, Jaipur

Hello Friends,

I'm Kunal Sharma, a final year student of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Arya College Of Engg. & I.T., Jaipur. I am here to brief my experience at the whole drive. I am very much thankful to the Almighty, my parents and friends who were there to give me moral support.

At the place of selection, initially around 500 candidates from 3 colleges appeared for the aptitude test and only 67 candidates were shortlisted for the second round of HR interview which was followed by the final.

Technical interview.

In the end, 57 students were selected in Accenture.

1) Aptitude: 55 questions in 60 mins.
Test was quite easy. 20 questions for English- 2 paragraphs with 5 questions each and other 10 questions on articles, fill in the blanks and synonyms. If you are comfortable with English language, then you can do well in this section.

20 Logical reasoning -2 cases were there. Questions on statement and conclusions, questions on venn diagram etc. You don't need to practice it from anywhere. it goes automatically with common sense and presence of mind.
15 Analytical questions which is the most easy and scoring part of the whole exam. Questions like if # is to add, $ is to divide, @ is to multiply etc. Attempt this section at 1st than go for others. Questions on sequences and words sequence etc. Well friends you don't have 2 prepare hard for the paper. You just have 2 concentrate and use common logic to find the answers and should also have knowledge of basic grammar and English. Many were simple calculations. Also you can prepare from R.S Aggarwal for logical part and wren and martin for English if you are not very comfortable with the language.

After this they gave a topic on which we had 2 write an essay in 5 mins. Our topic was "Impact of Reservation in India".

Maintain your speed from the very beginning. Do not stick to a question for more than a minute or else you would end up not attempting the answers you know. At the first go, attempt those questions whose answers you are able to find directly without solving. Then move to those questions which has to be solved.
Keep marking in the OMR sheet side by side or you won't find enough time at last to fill all the circles at one go.

Attempt all the questions as there is no negative marking. Once you clear the aptitude round, your chances to get through are 90%.

2) HR Interview:

This was totally luck based round. Remember always give your answers with confidence and try to find the answer if you don't know exactly. Maintain an eye contact with the interviewer and confidently give the answers. Dress up smartly and invest for the d-day.
Some important questions are:

* What do you know about Accenture {Be prepared as it is very common questions, go through company's website and listen to the presentation of the company carefully}
* Are you ready 2 relocate?
* Tell me your preferred locations (3 out of 5- 6). Don't tell them any specific locations, instead tell them you are ready to work anywhere.
*She asked for terms and conditions like willing to work in shift and many others. I said yes to all.
* Do you want 2 ask in questions?

Then she thanked me and asked me to wait outside. The result of HR round was announced immidiately and I was taken for the technical interview.

3) Technical Interview:

This was only a formality round (Very short conversation). Those Who got through HR also got finally selected.
Prepare very basic C and C++. Go through you minor project very well. Ensure you have proper knowledge of your summer training. You should have command in at least one subject of engineering.

Being confident is the key to crack.

The final result was announced on the same day at around 5:30 p.m. and subsequently offer letters were issued hand-to-hand.
All the best!

For any queries you can contact me on mailtokunalsharma@gmail.com.

I would be happy to answer your queries.

See you in Accenture.

Accenture Placement Paper 23 October 2010 MLRIT Venue: CMR, Hyderabad

Accenture Selection Procedure:

Round 1. Aptitude Round:

As everyone says that aptitude round will be very easy in Accenture, I don't agree completely, I would rather say you have to pay attention. The patter is similar from many years, but the quality of questions is matters thats all.

Pattern: Section 1: Q1-Q5= articles, Q6-Q10= nearest meaning like that anything regarding to verbal. Q10 -Q20 = two essay will be provided, answer to respective question by looking at the essay.

Section 2: Q20-Q40 = simple mathematical questions (train pro, work, time, date, ranks etc), Q40 - Q50 = alike, like kinds of question, very simple easy to score. Q50 -Q55 = inter link questions.

Essay alsovthey will give 5 mins 4 it.

Round 2: Group Discussion

My topic was "Our national game is Hocky why we can change it to Cricket because max people follow Cricket rather than Hocky", this is the 2nd time I participated in GD.

* Try to be first person to start the discussion, with proper and strong points.
* With a minute you shd analyze who is strong opponent, and try to engage your discussion with those persons and most important is grab their attention towards you and so you will know when they are going to stop and immediately you can catch the opportunity.

* When some one who is very weak in making a statement and when he is trying to do so, don't interrupt them, listen to them that gets you a + point.

* Finally you should engage a war on who is more stronger than you not who is weaker than you.
* Keep the flow clearly and short.
* High expectation will there and they will select out of 15 around 8.

Round 3: Technical Round

The interviewer asked me " Tell me about yourself " then asked in engineering which is your favorite subject,
as I was form ECE so I said Communication Networks, and C then questions were,

1. What is call by value nd call by reference
2. What is the different b/w while and do while.
3. What is SDLC.
4. What do you know about dbms?
5. C author?

And so on he started to questions, I took like about 45 min to answer all this, After all this is looked at his watch and asked me, " you accenture is hiring software engg, so what do you know about language?

Round 4: HR

My HR was really cool, I understood that earlier as I asked many of their experience who finished their HR round, I knew it, this HR guy is eliminating many, and I should give my best of best shot. And I was the last guy to HR round, the question were like this.

* Tell me about yourself?
* What is your hobbies?
* Who is you are role model and Why? What do you know about Accenture

After all this round I got placed. Actually it was a pool campus, around 2000 ppl gave the aptitude test and 600 got selected and later next round GD, where from all 33 colleges 400ppl were their who cleared GD and then in tech round and most in HR and I guess around 200 got selected from all 33 colleges, and 7 out of them were from our coll MLRIT and I'm one among them.

I worte this because, some ppl who got selected similar posted their experience which helped me lot in preparation so I thought to explain my exp so that some more will reap the benefits.

All the best Guys!

See you at Accenture

Chandra kanth.

Accenture Placement Paper 9 February 2011

Test Date : 9 February 2011
Test Location : SJBIT, Hyderabad

Hi Guys,

Accenture visited our college on 9th February, 2011. Around 200 people wrote the test but only 58 cleared it. The test had 55 questions divided into 3 sections verbal, quants and attention to detail and after an hour they'll give a topic and we should write an essay on that. That was for 5 mins. I don't remember the questions but they were quite easy.

Just know the usage of a, an, the etc. RC was a bit difficult cos it was about Sql or something like that and the questions were not direct. They were like which of the following is true. It will consume a lot of time so just jump to quants.

Quants was easy provided you have practice just go through the papers available in Freshersworld.com its more than enough.

Concentrate on venn diagrams more cos we had some 5 or 6 questions from tat topic and all were easy. I remember 1 or 2

If in a committee of 60, 40 speak English and 20 speak French, 10 Speak both. How many speak only English. answer is 40-10=30. The numbers were different but the pattern was same. Other one is like out of 100, 60 play hockey and 50 play cricket and 20 play both. How many play only hockey all direct.

We also had questions like select 1 if it can be answered with statement 1 alone or 2 alone etc. Easy ones just spend a little time here. Blood relations also were easy so quants was the scoring part.

In attention to detail the typical questions like Follow the directions given below to answer the questions that follow. Your answer for each question below would be: A, if ALL THREE items given in the question are exactly ALIKE. B, if only the FIRST and SECOND items are exactly ALIKE. C, if only the FIRST and THIRD items are exactly ALIKE. D, if only the SECOND and THIRD items are exactly ALIKE. E, if ALL THREE items are DIFFERENT.

And there were other questions like if * is +,+ is -,- is / and / is * then which of the followin is true..
guys these types of questions will take lot of time cos u have to check each and every option.
If the question is like was is 20/4-2+6*3=? then u can do it in a jiffy...

And in questions requiring deductions I recommend u guys use tables. We had a question like 3 hotels serve lunch. Hotel-1 serves at 12pm and Biryani as special dish. The Hotel which has biryani as special dish uses Blue dish.
Hotel which Serves Noodles as special dish does not use Black dish.Hotel-2 serves at 1pm
Hotel-3 serves at 2pm and does not use green bowl. The hotel which serves last serves Soup. One of the hotels serve noodles.

If u guys use tables from the lines highlighted all questions can be answered in less than 3 seconds each so just try to draw a table guys!!!

HOTEL
Special Dish
Dish Color
Time

Hotel-1
Biryani
Blue
12pm

Hotel-2
Noodles
Green
1pm

Hotel-3
Soup

Accenture Placement Paper 24 February 2010

Test Date : 24 February 2010
Test Location : BIT College

Accenture - High Performance, Delivered .
This is completely my experience:
Accenture Selection Procedure:
Round 1. Aptitude Round: As everyone says that aptitude round will be very easy in Accenture, I don't agree completely, i would rather say u have to pay attention .The patter is similar from many years , but the quality of questions is matters thats all.
Pattern : Section 1: Q1-Q5 = articles ,Q6-Q10 = nearest meaning like that anything regarding to verbal. Q10 -Q20 = two essay will be provided , answer to respective question by looking at the essay.
Section 2: Q20-Q40 = simple mathematical questions ( train pro, work, time, date, ranks etc) , Q40 - Q50 = alike , like kinds of question, very simple easy to score. Q50 -Q55 = inter link questions.
Round 2 : Group Discussion
My topic was "Is IT boon or bane ", this is the first time i participated in GD in entire my career, but i gave a best shot. and i would like to suggest some of my experience.
* try to be first person to start the discussion, with proper and strong points.
* with a minute u shd analyze who is strong opponent, and try to engage your discussion with those persons and most important is grab their attention towards you and so u will know when they are going to stop and immediately u can catch the opportunity.
* when some one who is very weak in making a statement and when he is trying to do so, don't interrupt them, listen to them that gets you a + point.
*Finally u shd engage a war on who is more stronger than you not who is weaker than you.
*Keep the flow clearly and short.
* High expectation will there and they will select out of 12 around 6 or 7
Round 3: Technical Round
The interviewer asked me " tell me about yourself " then asked in engineering which is your favorite subject,
as i was form ECE so I said Communication Networks, then questions were,
>what do you know abt networks, > If I m sitting and want to send a mail to US , then how will communication networks comes into picture > explain each layer of network in more understanding way >what is router > what is network > what is Ethernet > how does Ethernet is different from IP> what will happen after physical layer > how do you choose modulation > what are the modulations do we have > what is wireless how will msg goes if its wireless >> and so on he started to questions, I took like about 40 min to answer all this, in between I was nervous and he asked me to take 2 min rest if I want and then continue. And at the end he asked about the project which I m currently doing in my final sem.
After all this is looked at his watch and asked me, " you accenture is hiring software engg, so what do you know about language ?? " and i continued to say, c,c++,data structure using c++, and i guess it was already reached an hour and he too wanted to winded up so he asked to to write a pseudo code for finding all the prime no in a group of array and display only those prime nos ?? I explain how i start what flow I choose, etc .. "DONT SIMPLY WRITE THE PROGRAM , Explain while you are writing why wat for "
Round 4 : H R
My HR was really difficult and very strict person, i understood that earlier as i asked many of their experience who finished their HR round, i knew it, this HR guy is eliminating many , and i shd give my best of best shot. And i was the last guy to HR round, the question were like this.
> tell me abt yourselfs > what do you do in free time > what is your hobbies > why you want to be in accenture > what do you know abt accenture > name some top IT companies > name some top IT persons > Who is role model ,why , how > if some one in the group doesnt work , then wat will you do > have you represented your self anywhere > have you worked with in a group any time apart from your project > tell me abt your project > ok do you want ask me anything and i fired two questions .
Be enthusiastic to answer that will work out everything for you.
After all this round i got placed. Actually it was a pool campus, from our coll around 300 ppl gave the apti test and 48 got selected and later next round GD was in other coll, where from all five colleges 190ppl were their who cleared aptitude test. and in GD they eliminated the most and then in tech round and most in HR and i guess around 52 got selected from all five colleges, and 11 out of them were from our coll and i m one among them.
I worte this bcoz , some ppl who got selected similar posted their experience which helped me lot in preparation so i thought to explain my exp so that some more will reap the benefits...

Directions for Questions 11-14: Read the passage and answer the questions that follow on the basis of the information provided in the passage.
Disequilibrium at the interface of water and air is a factor on which the transfer of heat and water vapor from the ocean to the air depends. The air within about a millimeter of the water is almost saturated with water vapor and the temperature of the air is close to that of the surface water. Irrespective of how small these differences might be, they are crucial, and the disequilibrium is maintained by air near the surface mixing with air higher up, which is typically appreciably cooler and lower in water vapor content. The turbulence, which takes its energy from the wind mixes the air. As the speed of wind increases, so does the turbulence, and consequently the rate of heat and moisture transfer. We can arrive at a detailed understanding of this phenomenon after further study. The transfer of momentum from wind to water, which occurs when waves are formed is an interacting-and complicated phenomenon. When waves are made by the wind, it transfers important amounts of energy-energy, which is consequently not available for the production of turbulence.
11. This passage principally intends to:

A. resolve a controversy

B. attempt a description of a phenomenon

C. sketch a theory

D. reinforce certain research findings

E. tabulate various observations

Answer : B

A. I only

B. II only

C. I and II only

D. II and III only

E. I, II, and III

Answer : A
13. According to the author the present knowledge regarding heat and moisture transfer from the ocean to air as

A. revolutionary

B. inconsequential

C. outdated

D. derivative

E. incomplete

Answer : E
14. According to the given passage, in case the wind was to decrease until there was no wind at all, which of the following would occur?

A. The air, which is closest to the ocean surface would get saturated with water vapor.

B. The water would be cooler than the air closest to the ocean surface.

C. There would be a decrease in the amount of moisture in the air closest to the ocean surface.

D. There would be an increase in the rate of heat and moisture transfer.

E. The temperature of the air closest to the ocean and that of the air higher up would be the same.

Answer : A
Directions for Questions 15-20: Read the passage and answer the questions that follow on the basis of the information provided in the passage.
Roger Rosenblatt's book Black Fiction, manages to alter the approach taken in many previous studies by making an attempt to apply literary rather than sociopolitical criteria to its subject. Rosenblatt points out that criticism of Black writing has very often served as a pretext for an expounding on Black history. The recent work of Addison Gayle's passes a judgement on the value of Black fiction by clearly political standards, rating each work according to the ideas of Black identity, which it propounds.
Though fiction results from political circumstances, its author react not in ideological ways to those circumstances, and talking about novels and stories primarily as instruments of ideology circumvents much of the fictional enterprise. Affinities and connections are revealed in the works of Black fiction in Rosenblatt's literary analysis; these affinities and connections have been overlooked and ignored by solely political studies.
The writing of acceptable criticism of Black fiction, however, presumes giving satisfactory answers to a quite a few questions. The most important of all, is there a sufficient reason, apart from the racial identity of the authors, for the grouping together of Black authors? Secondly, what is the distinction of Black fiction from other modern fiction with which it is largely contemporaneous? In the work Rosenblatt demonstrates that Black fiction is a distinct body of writing, which has an identifiable, coherent literary tradition. He highlights recurring concerns and designs, which are independent of chronology in Black fiction written over the past eighty years. These concerns and designs are thematic, and they come form the central fact of the predominant white culture, where the Black characters in the novel are situated irrespective of whether they attempt to conform to that culture or they rebel against it.
Rosenblatt's work does leave certain aesthetic questions open. His thematic analysis allows considerable objectivity; he even clearly states that he does not intend to judge the merit of the various works yet his reluctance seems misplaced, especially since an attempt to appraise might have led to interesting results. For example, certain novels have an appearance of structural diffusion. Is this a defeat, or are the authors working out of, or attempting to forge, a different kind of aesthetic? Apart from this, the style of certain Black novels, like Jean Toomer's Cane, verges on expressionism or surrealism; does this technique provide a counterpoint to the prevalent theme that portrays the fate against which Black heroes are pitted, a theme usually conveyed by more naturalistic modes of expressions?
Irrespective of such omissions, what Rosenblatt talks about in his work makes for an astute and worthwhile study. His book very effectively surveys a variety of novels, highlighting certain fascinating and little-known works like James Weldon Johnson's Autobiography of an Ex-Coloured Man. Black Fiction is tightly constructed, and levelheaded and penetrating criticism is exemplified in its forthright and lucid style.
15. The author of the passage raises and objection to criticism of Black fiction like that by Addison Gayle as it:

A. Highlights only the purely literary aspects of such works

B. Misconceive the ideological content of such fiction

C. Miscalculate the notions of Black identity presented in such fiction

D. Replaces political for literary criteria in evaluating such fiction

E. Disregards the reciprocation between Black history and Black identity exhibited in such fiction.

Answer : D
16. The primary concern of the author in the above passage is:

A. Reviewing the validity of a work of criticism

B. Comparing various critical approaches to a subject

C. Talking of the limitations of a particular kind of criticism

D. Recapitulation of the major points in a work of criticism

E. Illustrating the theoretical background of a certain kind of criticism.

Answer : A
17. The author is of the opinion that Black Fiction would have been improved had Rosenblatt:

A. Undertaken a more careful evaluation of the ideological and historical aspects of Black Fiction

Directions for Questions 11-16: Read the passage and answer the questions that follow on the basis of the information provided in the passage.
Everyone conforms to infancy, infancy conforms to nobody, so that one babe commonly makes four or five out of the adults who prattle and play to it. So God has armed youth and puberty and manhood no less with its own piquancy and charm, and made it enviable and gracious and its claim s not to be put by, if it will stand by itself. Do not think the youth has no force, because he cannot speak to you and me. Hark! In the next room his voice is sufficiently clear and emphatic. It seems he knows how to speak to his contemporaries. Bashful or bold, then, he will know how to make us seniors very unnecessary.
The healthy attitude of human nature can be seen in the nonchalance of boys who are sure of a dinner, and would disdain as much as a lord to do or say aught to conciliate one. A boy is in the parlor what the pit is in the playhouse; independent, irresponsible, looking out from his corner on such people and facts as pass by, he tries and sentences them on their merits, in the swift, summary way of boys, as good, bad, interesting, silly, eloquent, troublesome. He never cumbers himself regarding consequences, about interests and he gives an independent, genuine verdict. You should court him: he will not court you. But the man is, as it were, clapped into jail by his consciousness. As soon as he has once acted or spoken with eclat, he is a committed person, watched by the sympathy or the hatred of hundreds, whose affections must now enter into his account. There is no Lethe for this. Ah, that he could pass again into his neutrality.
These are the voices, which we hear in solitude, but they grow faint and inaudible as we enter into the world. Everywhere society is conspiring against the manhood of every one of its members. Society is joint - stock company, in which members agree, for the better securing of his bread to each shareholder, to surrender the liberty and culture of the eater. The virtue in most request is conformity. It is averse to self-reliance. What it loves is names and customs and not realities and creators.
Whosoever is a man has to be a nonconformist. He who would gather immortal palms must not be hindered by the name of goodness, but must explore if it be goodness. Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of your own mind.
No law can be sacred to me but that of my nature. Good and bad are but names very readily transferable to that to this; the only right is what is after my constitution, the only right is what is after me constitution, the only wrong what is against it. A man is to carry himself in the presence of all opposition as if every thing were titular and ephemeral but he. I am ashamed to think how easily we capitulate to badges and names, to large societies and dead institutions. Every decent and well-spoken individual affects and sways me more than is right. I ought to go upright and vital, and speak the rude truth in all ways.
I shun father and mother and wife and brother, when my genius calls me. I would write on the lintels of the doorpost, whim. I hope it is somewhat better than whim at last, but we cannot spend the day in explanation. Except me not to show cause why I seek or why I exclude company. Then, again, do not tell me, as a good man did not to-day, of my obligation to put all poor men in good situations. Are they my poor? I tell thee, thou foolish philanthropist, that I grudge the dollar, the time, the cent, I give to such men as do not belong to me and to whom I do not belong. There is a class of person to whom by all spiritual affinity I am bought and sold; for them I will go to prison, if need be; but your miscellaneous popular charities; the education at collage of fools; the building of meeting - house to the vain end to which many now stand; alms to sots; and the thousand fold Relief Societies; - though I confess with shame I sometimes succumb and give the dollar, it is a wicked dollar which by and by I shall have the manhood to withhold.
If you refuse to conform, you can experience the displeasure of the world. Hence, a man should know how to estimate a sour face. The by - standers look askance on him in the public street or in the friend's parlor. In case this aversion originates from contempt and resistance similar to his own, it might result in a sad countenance; but the sour faces of the multitude, like their sweet faces, have no deep cause, but are caused by reasons as diverse as the direction of the wind and what he reads in the newspapers. Yet is the discontent of the multitude more formidable than that of the senate and the collage.
Another factor, which frightens us from self - trust in our consistency; a reverence for our past act or word, because the eyes of others have no other data for computing our orbit than our past acts, and we are loath to disappoint them.
But why should you keep your head over your shoulder? Why drag about this corpse of your memory, lest you contradict somewhat you have stated in this or that public place? Suppose you should contradict yourself; what then?
This is a rather silly consistency in our minds, which is adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines. Uniformly a great soul has almost nothing to do, he could just occupy himself with his shadow on the wall. Speak what you think now in hard words; and to-morrow speak what tomorrow thinks in hard words again, though it contradict everything you said to-day. - ''Ah, so you shall be sure to be misunderstood.'' - Is it so bad, then, to be misunderstood? Pythagoras was misunderstood, and Socrates, and Jesus, and Luther, and Copernicus, and Galileo, and Newton, and every pure and wise spirit that ever took flesh. What can be considered to be truly great is to be misunderstood.

Directions for Questions 17-20: Read the passage and answer the questions that follow on the basis of the information provided in the passage.
Certain scraps of evidence bear out those who hold a very high opinion of the average level of culture among the Athenians of the great age. Pericles's funeral speech is undoubtedly the most famous evidence from Athenian literature, that its level was indeed high. However, Pericles was a politician, and it is possible that he was flattering his audience. We know that thousands of Athenians sat hour after hour in the theater listening to the plays of the great Greek dramatists. The Greek plays, particularly the tragedies, maintained an extremely high intellectual level throughout, with no letdowns, no concessions to the lowbrows or to the demands of ''realism'', like the gravediggers scene in Shakespeare's Hamlet. The music and dancing seen in these plays were also of an equally high level. The best modern parallel can be seen in the restrained, difficult opera of the 18th century. The comparison is no doubt dangerous, but can you imagine almost the entire population of an American city (in suitable installments, of course) sitting through performances of Mozart's Don Giovanni or Gluck's Orpheus? Perhaps the Athenian masses went to these plays because of a lack of other amusements. They could at least understand something of what went on, since the subjects were part of their folklore. Undoubtedly the theme of grand opera is not part of the folklore of the American people.

17. From the passage it is evident that the author seems to question the sincerity of
1. politicians
2. playwrights
3. opera goers
4. ''low brows''
5. gravediggers.

Answer : A

18. According to the author the average American
1. Enjoys Hamlet
2. Loves folklore
3. Is not able to understand grand opera
4. Seeks a high cultural level
5. Lacks entertainment.

Answer : C

19. From the passage, we can say that the author's attitude toward Greek plays is one of
1. Qualified approval
2. Grudging admiration
3. Studied indifference
4. Partial hostility
5. Great respect.

Answer : E

20. The author makes a suggestion that Greek plays
1. Were demanding on the actors
2. Flattered their audiences
3. Were focussed on a limited audience
4. Were dominated by music and dancing
5. Stimulated their audiences.

Directions for Questions 11-16: Read the passage and answer the questions that follow on the basis of the information provided in the passage.
The pioneers of the teaching of science imagined that its introduction into education would remove the conventionality, artificiality, and backward-lookingness which were characteristic;of classical studies, but they were gravely disappointed. So, too, in their time had the humanists thought that the study of the classical authors in the original would banish at once the dull pedantry and superstition of mediaeval scholasticism. The professional schoolmaster was a match for both of them, and has almost managed to make the understanding of chemical reactions as dull and as dogmatic an affair as the reading of Virgil's Aeneid. The chief claim for the use of science in education is that it
teaches a child something about the actual universe in which he is living, in making him acquainted with the results of scientific discovery, and at the same time teaches him how to think logically and inductively by studying scientific method. A certain limited
success has been reached in the first of these aims, but practically none at all in the second. Those privileged members of the community who have been through a secondary or public school education may be expected to know something about the elementary physics and chemistry of a hundred years ago, but they probably know hardly more than any bright boy can pick up from an interest in wireless or scientific hobbies out of school hours. As to the learning of scientific method, the whole thing is palpably a farce. Actually, for the convenience of teachers and the requirements of the examination system, it is necessary that the pupils not only do not learn scientific method but learn precisely the reverse, that is, to believe exactly what they are told and to reproduce it when asked, whether it seems nonsense to them or not. The way in which educated people respond to such quackeries as spiritualism or astrology, not to say more dangerous ones such as racial theories or currency myths, shows that fifty years of education in the method of science in Britain or Germany has produced no visible effect whatever. The only way of learning the method of science is the long and bitter way of personal experience, and, until the educational or social systems are altered to make this possible, the best we can expect is the production of a minority of people who are able to acquire some of the techniques of science and a still smaller minority who are able to use and develop them.

Directions for Questions 17-20: Read the passage and answer the questions that follow on the basis of the information provided in the passage.
Furthermore, insofar as any conclusion about its author can be drawn from five or six plays attributed to him, the Wakefield Master is without exception considered to be a man of sharp contemporary observation. He was, probably clerically educated, as indicated by his Latin and music, his Biblical and patristic lore. Even today he is remembered for his his quick sympathy for the oppressed and forgotten man, his sharp eye for character, a ready ear for colloquial, vernacular turns of speech and a humor alternately rude and boisterous, coarse and happy. Therefore in spite of his conscious artistry as can be seen in his feeling for intricate metrical and stanza forms, he is regarded as a kind of medieval Steinbeck, indignantly angry at, uncompromisingly and even brutally realistic in presenting the plight of the agricultural poor.
It is now fairly accepted to regard the play as a kind of ultimate point in the secularization of the medieval drama. Therefore more stress has been laid on it as depicting realistically humble manners and pastoral life in the bleak of the west riding of Yorkshire on a typically cold night of December 24th. After what are often regarded as almost ''documentaries'' given in the three successive monologues of the three shepherds, critics go on to affirm that the realism is then intensified into a burlesque mock-treatment of the Nativity. Finally as a sort of epilogue or after-thought in deference to the Biblical origins of the materials, the play slides back into an atavistic mood of early innocent reverence. In actuality, the final scene is the culminating scene and also the raison d’etre of the introductory ''realism.''
Superficially the present play supports the conventional view of its mood of secular realism. At the same time, the ''realism'' of the Wakefield Master is of a paradoxical turn. His wide knowledge of people, as well as books indicates no cloistered contemplative but one in close relation to his times. Still, that life was after all a predominantly religious one, a time which never neglected the belief that man was a rebellious and sinful creature in need of redemption . So deeply (one can hardly say ''naively'' of so sophisticated a writer) and implicitly religious is the Master that he is less able (or less willing) to present actual history realistically than is the author of the Brome Abraham and Isaac. His historical sense is even less realistic than that of Chaucer who just a few years before had done for his own time ''costume romances,'' such as The Knight's Tele, Troilus and Cressida, etc. Furthermore, used highly romantic materials, which could excuse his taking liberties with history.

17. Of the following statements, which is not true of Wakefield Master?
1. He and Chaucer were contemporaries.
2. Wakefield Master is remembered as having written five or six realistic plays.
3. His plays realistically portray the plight of the country folk of his day
4. His writing was similar to that of John Steinbeck.
5. He was an accomplished artist.

Directions for Questions 11-15: Read the passage and answer the questions that follow on the basis of the information provided in the passage.
The existence of mammals on the earth can be traced back to at least the Triassic time. The rate of development was retarded, till evolutional change suddenly accelerated in the oldest Paleocene. This resulted in an increase in average size, larger mental capacity, and special adaptations for different modes of life, during the Eocene time. Further improvement was seen during the Oligocene Epoch, with the appearance of some new lines and extinction of others. The Miocene and Pliocene times are especially significant as they mark the culmination of various groups and a continued approach toward modern characters. It is in the Miocene time that the mammals reached their peak with reference to variety and size.

The ability of the mammals to adapt to various modes of life finds a parallel in the reptiles of the Mesozoic time, and apart form their greater intelligence, the mammals apparently have not done much better than the corresponding reptilian forms. Undoubtedly the bat is a better flying animal than the pterosaur, but at the same time the dolphin and whale are hardly more fish like than the ichthyosaur. Quite a few of the swift-running mammals inhabiting the plains, like the horse and the antelope, must excel any of the dinosaurs. Although the tyrannosaur was a more weighty and robust carnivore than perhaps any carnivorous mammal, the lion and the tiger, by virtue of their superior brain are far more efficient and dangerous beasts of prey. It is significant to note that various species of mammals gradually adapted themselves to various kinds of lifestyles, some took to grazing on the plains and were able to run swiftly (horse, deer, bison), others started living in rivers and swamps (hippopotamus, beaver), inhabiting trees (sloth, monkey), burrowing underground (rodent, mole), feeding on flesh (tiger, wolf), swimming in the water (dolphin, whale, seal), and flying in the air (bat). Human beings on account of their superior brain have been able to harness mechanical methods to conquer the physical world and adapt to any set of conditions.

Such adaptation to different conditions leads to a gradual change in form and structure. This is a biological characteristic of the youthful, plastic stage of a group. It is seen that early in its evolutional cycle animals possess the capacity for change, but as the animal progresses in its cycle becoming old and fixed, this capacity for change disappears. The generalized types of organisms retain longest the ability to make adjustments when required, and it is from them that new, fecund stocks take origin-certainly not from any specialized end products. With reference to mammals, we see their birth, plastic spread in many directions, increased specialization, and in some cases, extinction; this is a characteristic of the evolution of life, which can be seen in the geologic record of life.

Directions for Questions 11-15: Read the passage and answer the questions that follow on the basis of the information provided in the passage.
No effort is made to understand the reasons for these recurring disasters. Nobody has or the time or the inclination to understand the reasons. Unless and until we make an effort to understand these disasters will continue year after year with ever-increasing intensity.
The paramount need of day is “information, education, and planning”. Information would mean gathering data from all over the world about environmental degradation, loss of forest cover or mangroves, and pollution of all kinds. Education would mean informing the rules the mankind the reasons for these distressed. People must be made aware of the phenomenon of global warming. The vaporous by products of human activities create gas, like carbon dioxide-CO2 – which traps vast amount of heat resulting in the increase of earth’s temperature, which boosts sea-level, shifts seasons. Unseasonal floods, rains, droughts etc. are the direct pattern of seasons but not so under E1 Nino. Increase of two degrees in global warming can cause a havoc. Greenhouse effect is another phenomenon, which haunts us, incoming sunlight has an energy equivalent to about 3,100 watts bulbs per sq yard. Lower air layers, which contain a number of gases, water vapour , CO2 and many others, trap the heat when these gases warm up, some of the heat is radiated back to earth ‘s surface. This is broadly known as green effect. CO2 emission accounts for 60 percent of warming and has a life span of about 100 years in the atmosphere. Water vapour in contrast has a life span of eight days only. Ozone-level depletion is another cause of series concern as it causes killer cancer for which as yet there is no cure. Once we understand the causes, it is easy to take to remedial measures. This brings us to planning. Effluent management planning is the dire need of the day. There should be steering committee of governmental ministers, scientists, industries, NGOs, to devise means to develop and install machineries to prevent major cause of polluting effluents mentioned earlier. Within a time-bound framework, these devices must be installed, failing which the erring industries must be closed down. No new industries should be permitted without efficient effluent management and treatment. Chemical pesticides should be phased out gradually. Indian farmer for centuries depended upon organic fertilizers. Let us opt for them again. Recently, studies showed that mother ‘s milk has DDT contents, obviously from consuming food having agrochemicals or pesticides. The indiscriminate use of pesticides kills both predatory and beneficial insects also. Let us bring back use of Neem for pesticides, which kills only predatory insects, or Tulsi for cleaning the atmosphere from suffocating pollution. Planting these trees on war footing in the urgent need of the day. A country needs more than 30 percent forest cover. Trees retain water in soil and act as buffers against the waves. They are necessary for maintaining the regular cycle of seasons. India has less than 20 percent of forest cover. All this is possible if we opt for information technology. Vast sources of information are available. Let us use them to bring the knowledge to the doorstep of a common man, the executive, the politicians and the judiciary. Environment is a finely-tuned and extremely well –balanced ecological mechanism. Flora and fauna, birds, animals and, of course, humans play a vital role. Touch one adversely and all suffer. We are courting irreversible disaster. We have turned our back on Nature. Let us go back to Nature- at least for our survival.

Directions for Questions 17-20:
One recent example of industrial hyper growth has taken place in the recycling industry, led by the rapid expansion of the recycled paper market. Though many laws were enacted in the late 1980s to encourage (and in some cases require) the collection of waste paper for recycling, there were not, at that time, companies with sufficient capacity to recycle it all. Consequently the collected paper accumulated in storage, usually at the expense of the recycling companies, thereby adding to their overhead and squeezing their already thin profit margins. Today a different situation exists. Fifty-seven new paper mills have been built since 1991, and of these, at least twenty-nine use recycled fiber. This surge in capacity has resulted in a concurrent rise in profits. The price per Ton of waste paper has quadrupled in the past year, as have the prices of corrugated cardboard and used newsprint. Trash haulers have benefited from these conditions by combining their trash hauling and recycling operations. Recycling centers are connected both to the clients to whom they sell end products and to those from whom they collect refuse; thus, the company gets paid twice for the same trash, once for hauling the waste and once for selling the usable material. Industry profits have increased more than tenfold during this period. As the industry has become more competitive, some haulers have chosen to rebate a portion of this money to their clients in the hopes of ensuring their loyalty.
17. According to the passage, which of the following is a reason for the increase in profits in the trash hauling business?

A Haulers' ability to sell both services and products.
B Money offered by haulers to preferred customers.
C Foresight exhibited by the leaders of the industry.
D Haulers' willingness to adapt technology to a changing industry.
E Passage of stricter environmental legislation.

18. It can be inferred from the passage that the price of waste paper

A will increase steadily over the next few years
B will increase as more companies get involved in the industry
C is closely related to the availability of trash haulers
D is not as important to trash haulers as the price they charge for hauling waste
E is sometimes set by the weight of the product

19. The author of the passage would most likely agree with which of the following?

A. Competition between trash haulers and recyclers will prevent the recycled paper industry from reaching its full
economic potential.
B. Pressure from anti-environmental groups has increased pressure on the government to oppose recycled paper
initiatives.
C. The recycled paper industry may continue to grow at its present rate as long as the industry remains profitable.
D. The profit-seeking of recyclers have overshadowed environmental concerns in the recycled paper industry.
E. Government negligence prevented the recycled paper industry from becoming successful until the early 1990’s.

20. According to the passage, all of the following are results of the increase in the number of new mills using

recycled finer except

A. The price of waste paper has risen dramatically.
B. Trash haulers are earning increased revenues.
C. Profits at recycling centers have increased more than tenfold.
D. The price of corrugated cardboard has risen.
E. Trash haulers have been forced to compete with recyclers.

Directions for Questions 11-15: Read the passage and answer the questions that follow on the basis of the information provided in the passage. Microprocessor is an electronic computer Central Processing Unit (CPU) made from miniaturized transistors and other circuit elements on a single semiconductor Integrated Circuit (IC). Before the advent of microprocessors, electronic CPUs were made from individual small-scale Integrated Circuits containing the equivalent of only a few transistors.

By integrating the processor onto one or a very few large-scale Integrated Circuit packages (containing the equivalent of thousands or millions of discrete transistors), the cost of processor power was greatly reduced. The evolution of microprocessors has been known to follow Moore's Law when it comes to steadily increasing performance over the years.

This law suggests that the complexity of an Integrated Circuit with respect to minimum component cost will double in about 18 months. From humble beginnings as the drivers for calculators, the continued increase in power has led to the dominance of microprocessors over every other form of computer; every system from the largest mainframes to the smallest handheld computers now uses a microprocessor at their core. .As with many advances in technology, the microprocessor was an idea wbose time had come. Three projects arguably delivered a complete microprocessor at about the same time: Intel's 4004, Texas Instruments' TMS1000, and Garrett AiResearch's Central Air Data Computer.

A computer-on-a-chip is a variation of a microprocessor, which combines the microprocessor core (CPU), some memory, and I/O (input/output) lines, all on one chip. The proper meaning of microcomputer is a computer using a (number of) microprocessor(s) as its CPU(s), while the concept of the patent is somewhat more similar to a micro controller.

11) Which of the following descriptions would NOT fit a microprocessor?
A) Electronic computer
B) Central Processing Unit
C) Memory disk
D) A single integrated chip circuit.

12) Select the TRUE statement from the following.
A) Microprocessors and computers on a chip are variations of each other.
B) Integration of processing power on chips has made processing power cheaper.

Dynamic Link Libraries Windows provides several files called dynamic link libraries (DLLs) that contain collections of software code that perform common functions such as opening or saving a file. When Windows application wants to use one of those functions or routines, the app sends a message to Windows with the names of the DLL file and the function. This procedure is known as calling a function. One of the most frequently used DLLs is Windows COMMDLG.DLL, which includes among others, the functions to display File Open, File Save, Search, and Print dialog boxes.

The application also sends any information the DLL function will need to complete the operation. For example, a program calling the Open File function in COMMDLG.DLL would pass along a file spec, such as *. * or *.DOC, to be displayed in the dialog box's Filename text box. The application also passes along a specification for the type of information it expects the DLL to return to the application when the DLL's work is done. The application, for example, may expect return information in the form of integers, true/false values, or text. Windows passes the responsibility for program execution to the DLL, along with the parameters and the return information the DLL will need. The specific DLL is loaded into memory, and then executed by the processor. At this point the DLL, rather than the application, runs things. The DLL performs all the operations necessary to communicate with Windows and, through Windows, with the PC's hardware. After the DLL function is complete, the DLL puts the return information into memory, where it can be found by the application, and instructs Windows to remove the DLL routine from memory. The application inspects the return information, which usually tells whether the DLL function was able to execute correctly. If the operation was a success, the application continues from where it left off before issuing the function call. If the operation failed, the application displays an error message.

16) By using DLLs, Windows:
A) Saves processing time
B) Multitasks
C) Shares program code
D) Communicates with PCs hardware

17) To use any routine of a DLL, Windows:
A) Searches and copies it in the application code and executes it
B) Loads the DLL file and searches and executes the routine
C) Loads just the required routine in memory and executes it
D) Searches the location of the routine and instructs the application to execute it

18) Which information does an application need to passto Windows to use a DLL routine?
A) Just the name of the routine
B) Just the name of the DLL, which finds in turn the routine to be executed in return
C) Both the name of the routine as well as DLL and any parameters
D) Name of the DLL, routine, any parameters and type of information to be returned

19) According to the passage, while the DLL routine is executing, the calling application:
A) Waits for the routine to execute
B) Continues with other tasks
C) Helps the DLL routine perform by communicating with Windows and through Windows with the PC's hardware
D) Passes all responsibility of program execution to the DLL and is removed from memory

20) The DLL function after execution returns:
A) The parameters and information into memory, where it can be inspected by the calling application
B) Information into memory, where it can be inspected by the calling application
C) To the calling application the information required by it so that it can inspect it
D) The information required into memory so that DLL can inspect whether the function operation was a success

printf("%c",c);
ans. 11th character will be printed "K" verify.
39. Theory question about far pointers.
Hint: Far pointers are 4 bytes in size and local pointers are 2 bytes in size. important: i saw in a previous question paper of accenture which is in the chetana database, some lady wrote that size of an integer in C is 2 bytes and for C++ it is 4 bytes. This is absurd. The size of types is entirely dependent on the compiler used.for DOS Turbo C sizeof int is 2 and float is 4 bytes for windows borland C,C++ size of int is 4 bytes for linux gcc, size of int is 2 bytes. All these depends on the Operating system. Please keep this in mind.

note that str[i] and i[str] are the same.in the question paper, the original word is "hello".
42. Which of the following is not defined in string.h strtod, memchr, strspn, strchr
ans . strtod.(defined in STDLIB.H) it is used to convert a string to double.
43. Questions on macros with arguments .same pattern given in TEST UR C SKILLS
eg.#define SQUARE(x) x*x
main()

.......
y=SQUARE(2+3);
printf("%d",y);
}
ans. when the macro expands we get 2+3*2+3 = 2+6+3 =11.11 is the correct answer not 25.
44. Remember an inline function does type checking and so it is better than a macro a question on this.

Directions for Questions 11-15:
Read the passage and answer the questions that follow on the basis of the information provided in the passage.

By integrating the processor onto one or a very few large-scale Integrated Circuit packages (containing the equivalent of thousands or millions of discrete transistors) , the cost of processor power was greatly reduced.
The evolution of microprocessors has been known to follow Moore's Law when it comes to steadily increasing performance over the years. This law suggests that the complexity of an Integrated Circuit with respect to minimum component cost will double in about 18 months. From humble beginnings as the drivers for calculators, the continued increase in power has led to the dominance of microprocessors over every other form of computer; every system
from the largest mainframes to the smallest handheld computers now uses a microprocessor at their core. .As with many advances in technology, the microprocessor was an idea wbose time had come. Three projects arguably delivered a complete microprocessor at about the same time: Intel's 4004, Texas Instruments' TMS1000, and Garrett AiResearch's Central Air Data
Computer. . A computer-on- a-chip is a variation of a microprocessor,
which combines the microprocessor core (CPU), some memory, and I/O (input/output) lines, all on one chip. The proper meaning of microcomputer is a computer using a (number of) microprocessor( s) as its CPU(s), while the concept of the patent is somewhat more similar to a micro controller.
