TCS Interview Experience- What and how you need to prepare

TCS Interview Experience- What and how you need to prepare
TCS-‘Experience Certainty’, and I experienced that! It was my first interview and the best one. I was among the top five students from my branch and so I was exempted from the online aptitude test, but not from online Verbal ability(VA) test. VA requires one to compose an email with a minimum of 70 words and maximum of 100 to 120 words with a list of phrases mentioned.
For Aptitude the best volume to follow is CAT materials from TIME.
Once you are done with Aptitude and verbal ability test you can view your result in your TCS Next Step portal.
On the day of my interview we had only one round i.e T.R (technical round), H.R, and M.R (Managerial round) all together at once. Total of 9 panels, each with 3 interviewers.
I stepped in with a smile and received a similar smile from all three interviewers. They had a look at my resume and then it started. The very first question was “Name the top three technologies which are in trend? ”. I was a bit prepared with the answer so without thinking much I replied “1.  Mobile Applications  2. Augmented reality and 3. Big data”.By hearing the word BIG DATA there was a sarcastic smile on their face and with the same smile they asked “Tell us more about big data ”. I was positive with my attitude and with full confidence I started “Sir, Big data is nothing but data which is large and complex and is beyond the capability of traditional database…… (did not complete)”. One of the interviewees interrupted and ask “Tell me what is the difference between Data and Big Data?”, “How big data are different from the relation database?” . I had bit knowledge about big data so could answer them easily. From here the question flow was now directed to Databases. I have done my project on databases (Automatic database retrieval schema) so I was grilled on databases and on my project. Same question were :
“What inspired you to take up this project ?”
“What was your role in your Project ?”
“Was this project made by you or you took help from someone? ”
“Problem statement of your project ?”
“Describe your project in just one line?”
I answered all these questions honestly and with a smile. Just one simple tip, while answering anything related to project always use terms like “My team and I ”, “We as a team”,”We..”. This gives  a feeling of teamwork.
Now I was asked about the concepts of Testing and the question were like
“Did you test your project ?”
“Which testing strategies did you follow with your project ?”
“At which stage did you test your project- before starting of the project or after partially completing or after the project was completed. When ?“
“What are the different testing strategies available for testing ? And which is the best one ?”
After this I was asked on SQL query
“What is a Query ?”
“Can we write same query in different forms ?” (the answer is Yes!)
“Can you give some example for the same ?”
“Write few queries from your project ?”
Now the toughest part of my interview was about to begin.
Suddenly all three of my interviewers starting asking me questions one after the other. Some of the questions were
“What are pointers in C ?”
“What is OSI reference model ?”
“Difference between OSI and TCP/IP reference model ? ”
“What are joints ?”
“What is SDLC?”
“What are different stages in SDLC?”
“How many types of joints are available ?”
“What is a difference between joints and unions ?”
“Define data structure ?”
I was very precise with my answers by keeping them short and appropriate. By now I knew that I was in the latter stage of my interview process. It ended with some easy go questions like:
“Why TCS ?”
“Where do you see yourself after 5 years ?”
That’s it folks!. There was a positive vibe in the room which made me feel that I was in, but still was waiting for the results. Finally the results were out and as expected, I was through my first interview.
For all the TCS aspirants, concentrate more on your project, databases, C, Java, SDLC, Computer networks (just the rudiments) and Testing (basics).
