Online MBA programs are a relatively new delivery format, even in the USA. However, there are now (mid 2001) over 100 online and distance-learning MBA programs by American business schools.
With this sudden proliferation, rankings for these programs are still difficult to determine. The two that stand out, mainly as a result of the reputation of their parent schools are those at Duke (Fuqua) and Indiana. Duke still has the edge, and the price tag to match, with fees at nearly $100,000 for 2001.
In 2000 it was estimated that 5,000 students enrolled in virtual MBA programs and this figure has been predicted to rise to 50,000 in 2002.
Some Internet MBA programs are entirely virtual (such as the University of Baltimore or Colarado State) while others include a certain amount of class contact time (Pace University and Portland State).
There are over 100 MBA schools in the USA, which offer online MBA programs. Taking an MBA online means the business school’s country is less important and MBA schools based in other countries also provide online MBAs and distance learning MBAs.
